Over the years, unused metal products rust and become covered with organic and inorganic contaminants. But they can be brought back to life using some life hacks, and this does not require special knowledge or high qualifications. Any adult can handle this kind of work.

Will need

Materials, tools and accessories:

  • old rusty frying pan;
  • salt;
  • container made of dielectric material;
  • stainless steel strips;
  • power supply;
  • cleaning agent;
  • brushes, napkins and sponges;
  • drill and grinder;
  • baking soda;
  • fire source (portable gas stove), etc.

The process of restoring an old rusty frying pan based on electrolysis methods

To clean an old rusty frying pan using the galvanic method, we use an aqueous solution of table salt as an electrolyte in an amount of approximately 400 grams according to electronic household scales.

Pour the salt into a plastic container with water and mix thoroughly.The anode will be stainless steel strips, which we connect to the positive terminal of the current source.

We also lower the rusty frying pan into a container with electrolyte and connect the negative terminal to it, which turns the object into a cathode.

We turn on the power source and set the voltage to around 15-16 V, and the current to 10 to 15 A. After this, everything in the container begins to bubble - the process of cleaning the frying pan has begun. With these electrolysis parameters, the cleaning process will continue for several hours.

Remove the voltage and turn off the power source. On the surface of the container we see a real “broth” of dirt, deposits and rust. We disconnect the terminals, take out the plates that have noticeably darkened, and the frying pan that has lost a significant part of its coating.

Using a cleaning agent and hard brushes, remove any dirt remaining in the pan, washing it off from time to time in a container with water and finally under running tap water. After that, wipe the pan with a cloth.

We continue cleaning with hard attachments, using a drill, dremel and grinder as a drive. Next, pour baking soda into the pan, pour in a little water and rub it vigorously with a hard sponge inside and out. Finally, rinse with clean water using a spray bottle.

We begin heat treatment on a portable gas burner. We start with dry calcination.

Then soak the pan on all sides with oil, including the handle. Heat the dishes to be cleaned again until the oil completely burns out. We repeat this procedure twice.

To completely remove any remaining dirt, cleaning agents, and non-food odors, fry vegetables such as chopped cabbage, lettuce, and onions in a frying pan in oil while stirring vigorously.

Now you can cook any dishes in a frying pan, for example, scrambled eggs, without fear of negative consequences.
