Sometimes, for various reasons, you have to use a plastic bottle to replenish your drinking water supply. But at the most inopportune moment, the handle of the bottle breaks off.

the handle of the bottle breaks off

I would like to offer two ways to make a homemade pen.

For the first method, we will need two pieces of clothesline, a piece of polypropylene (PP) pipe with a diameter of 20 mm and a length of 10-12 cm, as well as some nylon thread.

we will need

Tools include wire cutters, scissors and a lighter.

Let's start by removing the broken handle along with the fastening with pliers.

Next, we fold one piece of clothesline in half, make a half ring and lay it on a flat surface. We do the same with the second piece and arrange it on top of the first.

putting one piece together

We tighten the places where the ropes intersect with force using nylon thread.

We proceed with the second piece

We tie the thread, cut the ends of the thread and fuse it with the flame of a lighter (so as not to unravel). We do this carefully so as not to get burned.

Next, we place the resulting loop over the neck of the bottle and tighten it.

We tie the thread

Let's start making the handle.

We insert one end of the rope inside the PP tube, measure the height of the future handle and tie it in a knot.

put it on the neck of the bottle

It is also advisable to melt the knot over a fire. We do the same with the second piece.

And the final touch. When pulling up one or another rope, we hide the knots inside the tube and adjust the position of the handle relative to the neck.

If PP tubes are not available, you can use a piece of rubber hose or metal tube of suitable diameter.

For the second option, we will need a piece of iron chain 40-50cm long, a PP tube and a clamp with a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the neck.

piece of iron

Tools include pliers, wire cutters and a screwdriver. You can use any chain that is available. But it is desirable that it goes inside the tube. In my case, the chain had to be flattened a little with a hammer.

Next, we push the chain inside the tube, measure the height of the handle and, if necessary, bite off the extra links. We put the lower links of the chain on the clamp, and tighten the clamp on the neck.

The new pen is ready

The new pen is ready.

If the bottle becomes unusable, the handle can be moved to another bottle. In the first case, you need to loosen the loop to do this, and in the second, simply unscrew the clamp.

You have to carry water with you to work. The handles fly off very quickly. So I had to remember the “Skillful Hands” circle :winked:

Recently I tried another option - just replacing the handle. A lot of bottles with handles are thrown away; the bottle is carefully cut off right behind the handle and the handle is removed. And I think anyone can guess how to put the removed handle on a new bottle. The main thing is not to forget to remove the remains of the old one ;)

In general, plastic bottles are not recommended to be reused; it’s easier to buy a new bottle of water, and it’s better for your health.

It’s better to replace the word “put together” with put together!
