Crocheting toys for your beloved baby is a great activity for a mother on maternity leave. There are many advantages here: a distraction from everyday, sometimes monotonous, worries, an opportunity to discover new creative talents, creating beautiful and, most importantly, safe things for your child.

Materials required for work:
So, in order to knit an “Octopussy” rattle, which can be put on a child’s hand or hung, for example, from an arc above a crib, you will need:
• Very little free time;
• Small-sized plastic ball, hollow from the inside;
• Rice, beads or several small beads;
• Crochet hook, sewing needle and scissors;
• Multi-colored cotton threads “Iris”. If you don't have them, you can use any other cotton crochet thread. Their color depends only on the mother’s imagination;
• A piece of Velcro tape measuring about 1.5 by 1.5 cm.
How to knit a rattle
•First of all, you need to make a small hole in the ball and place 5-7 grains of rice or the same number of beads (small beads) into it;
• Then the ball is tied with threads as shown in the photo. Knitting crochet is done in single crochet stitches. The first row is made of 5 air loops that close in a circle. The ball is tied as follows: until the middle of the ball, the loops are gradually added, then decreased. The octopus body is ready;
• Next, you need to attach 8 legs to the body of the octopus. In this example they are made with multi-colored threads. The length of each leg is 8 cm.
You can tie them as shown in the photo. First of all, a rope equal to the length of the leg is knitted, then a wavy design of the leg is knitted on it in a spiral (3 rows with a single crochet). To make the design more magnificent, the number of loops in the second and third rows must be increased, knitting two from one loop. The legs can be knitted either separately, sewing them on later with a sewing needle, or immediately attaching them to the body;
• The octopus is almost ready, now it needs to be decorated. To do this, you need to knit (or make from buttons) the eyes and mouth;
• Now all that remains is to make a bracelet, with the help of which the toy can be put on the child’s hand. To do this, you need to knit a rectangle measuring approximately 1.5 by 8 cm, sew an adhesive tape fastener along the edges, and attach an octopus in the middle of the tape.
A toy made with love that will delight your baby for a long time is ready.
