Soft toy - giraffe

Children always need a lot of toys. Since babies are not able to show interest in one thing for a long time, parents often have to come up with new ways to maintain their attention. Otherwise, children will begin to become interested in household chemicals, dishes, pull off cutlery, climb into sockets and other dangerous places.
Of course, not everyone will be able to buy toys every day, so the best solution to this problem would be handicrafts. You can sew funny animals, cars, helicopters, dolls with your own hands, especially if you use the remains of various fabrics, and do not buy new fabrics every time.

This giraffe, for example, is sewn from thick yellow stretch (offcuts from summer jeans), leftover brown leather and stuffed with padding polyester.

First, draw a sketch on paper and cut it out.

Then we trace the paper blank onto the fabric, cut it out with a small seam allowance (up to 5 mm) and apply it to a solid piece of fabric.


In order for the toy to turn out normal and not deformed, it is better to sew the figured part exactly this way, otherwise there is a risk of mixing and mismatching of the parts (especially if the fabric stretches).

As you sew, excess fabric can be trimmed off immediately.

The stitches should be very small (especially on the head, there are a lot of “turns”), otherwise, when turned out, the seams will not have smooth and rounded transitions.

From the inside out we sew the head, neck, legs, leaving the back and tail area untouched.

We place three strips of brown leather on the back (can be replaced with a thin satin ribbon) and sew them together with the fabric. Be sure to tuck the loops inside the product, leaving only small “tails” on the outside.


To turn it inside out, you need to leave a small slot in the area of ​​the future tail, through which you stuff the giraffe with padding polyester.


We sew up this hole, inserting two loops to imitate a tail, using small reverse stitches.


The eyes can be made from black identical buttons.

We sew them in pairs, bringing the thread to the opposite side into the same holes.


We cut out small oval and round fragments from the leather, which we sew to the yellow body of our giraffe.

Skip the glue and take the time to sew on the parts to make the toy safe and environmentally friendly.

Now this spotted giraffe can delight your baby and become another toy in his valuable collection.
