Emergency opening of the door, drilling the lock insert

This is the most common method of opening doors with mortise locks with inserts if you have lost the key. This method is used by special organizations providing relevant services. Emergency services usually immediately knock down the door because human life is in danger. But if no one is in danger and you want to open the door with minimal damage, then these instructions are for you.

Theory

A mortise door lock has a body and a replaceable insert, commonly called a cylinder. Part of the insert just sticks out of the door and the keys are inserted into it.

This insert contains a special coding mechanism with pins and springs, which allows or does not allow the cylinder to rotate. Below you can see the rivet holes in which the code pins are located.

We need to drill out this mechanism using a drill or screwdriver.

Opening a lock with an insert without a key

Let's move on to practice. We make a point for the drill. It is better to make a hole immediately under the cylinder, since the locking and coding pins are located immediately under it.
Well, if there is no core, then this can be done with the same drill.

Point made. Now when you start drilling, the drill will not run from side to side.

Let's start drilling. The drill can be taken with a diameter of 4-8 mm.

Drills quite well. The main thing is to keep the drill level so that the hole goes straight in depth.

Drilled. The depth depends on the larva.

In general, you need to periodically stop and look into the hole to see if the holes for the code pins have run out, because behind them there is solid metal.

The line of holes is visible below:

And from above:

Now you need to hit the insert a couple of times with a hammer with a little force so that the pieces of pins fall into the drilled hole and do not interfere with the rotation of the cylinder.

Here are a few that fell out, you can see them:

Well, now we take a flat screwdriver, insert it into the key channel and turn the lock insert cylinder. Typically the rotation is two turns.

We try to open the door - everything comes off.

And in the end, I would like to add that you have the right to do such actions only with your locks and doors. Helping someone or opening someone else's door is illegal.

...the method is ancient, but simple and works. It also applies to padlocks //barn// with a similar cylinder...!!! Sincerely, grandfather Vasily..mutant of the USSR nuclear test site...2018..July 16..from A.D..

We screw the self-tapping screw into the hole of the cylinder (where the key is inserted), then use a nail puller to pull it out along with the cylinder. then use a flat-head screwdriver to open the door without any problems. It all takes no more than 30 seconds!
