Everyone wants to protect their area from the penetration of unauthorized persons; for this purpose, various fences are erected, gates and wickets are made. A lock is installed on the gate; it is used when leaving home for a long time. Ordinary latches are used every day, but they no longer satisfy many users - such a mechanism only protects against spontaneous opening and does not create any obstacles for strangers. There is a simple way to make a latch with a secret; only knowledgeable people can open it.
Operating principle of a secret lock
The manufacturing technology will not pose any difficulties even for inexperienced craftsmen. But only under one condition - you need to understand the principle of operation of the mechanism and the influence of parameters on functionality.
In the closed position, the gate cannot be opened using the handle.
An outside visitor cannot enter the yard, but the owner opens the entrance without any problems.
There is nothing on the outside of the gate during a normal inspection.
Only by bending down can you see a small piece of metal strip protruding beyond the cross member of the frame.
When you move it with your foot towards the lock, the gate opens.
How the “secret” is made
A primitive, but quite effective device, consists of an L-shaped strip welded.
A “retainer” is fixed at the bottom; it performs two tasks: it regulates the amount of travel of the strip and prevents it from moving away from the gate frame. At the same time, dangling and friction of the metal on the profiled sheathing sheet is eliminated.
A second holder is attached to the vertical post; it gives the lever a reciprocating movement and allows it to rise on the hook when closing the gate.
Now all that remains is to take the dimensions taking into account the installation location of the elements, weld the L-shaped strip, make or buy holders and assemble the structure.
Conclusion
Quite often, children put matches or chewing gum into the keyhole; the lock requires repair or complete replacement. To prevent damage, it is recommended to increase the distance between the lock hole and the hole in the gate casing. This will make it much more difficult to damage the mechanism.
