Will need
You can make a means for assembling and storing a garden hose from waste materials, while others cost pennies. We must prepare the following before starting work:
- bead ring from a truck wheel;
- disc and wheel hub from a passenger car;
- aerosol paint in cans;
- square steel rod;
- fasteners (bolts, nuts, washers);
- plastic caps and polymer tape.
To make a hose reel we will need: a grinder with a cutting disc, a hammer and a center punch, a drill with a drill, a level gauge, a tape measure and a marker, welding equipment, mechanical emery and pliers.
Manufacturing process
Cut the bead ring in half using a grinder and a cutting disc. We divide one half again into two equal parts.
Place half of the disk vertically with its ends on a flat surface. We lay the quarters close to it from the inside with their convex sides outward, closer to one edge and symmetrically to each other.
Using a level gauge, we check the vertical position of the disk half and weld it to the quarters.
At the very top, we weld a wheel hub from a passenger car to the vertical element so that its flange is directed towards the long ends of the horizontal elements.
We attach the disc to the hub and check the ease of rotation in the hub bearing. If the two parts are from different machines, the holes may not match. Then, using the hub as a template, you need to mark and then drill new holes in the disk with a drill.
We paint the assembled assembly (without the disk) using a can of aerosol paint.
From square-section rods we cut eight blanks of equal length, the ends of which are processed (rounded) using mechanical sandpaper.
Using a level gauge, marker, drill and pliers, we make four rectangular cuts on the disks on both sides, evenly spaced around the circumference.
We place radially square rods, slightly inclined upwards, into these cutouts and weld them in this position.
We process the welding areas with a grinder and paint the assembly with a can of aerosol paint.
We install the disk on the hub and secure it with three bolts and nuts. We wrap electrical tape around the ends of the rods and tightly fasten the plastic caps.
The reel is completely ready for use.Let's check it in action: we fix the end of the hose on the disk and begin to rotate it using the handle bars, which will simultaneously serve as limiters for the hose.
Winding is quite easy since the disc rotates on the hub bearing. To unwind it, just pull the free end.
