The multifunctional tool (MFI), or, as it is also called, “Renovator,” appeared not so long ago and quickly became popular among the craftsmen. And there were many attachments for it for different purposes, materials and tasks. And if for an angle grinder it is enough to have 3 or 4 different discs (for metal, wood, stone and one thicker), then for a renovator each attachment has a very narrow application, and it costs a lot.

Homemade universal nozzle

I suggest using a homemade attachment made from a grinder disc as a universal one. To begin with, I took a disk with a diameter of 125 mm.
With a little modification, it fit on the renovator and was securely fastened. It was necessary to cut grooves about 1 mm wide and deep along the edges of the central mounting hole of the disk.

The grooves can be easily sawed with a hacksaw blade for metal.

Works for a couple of minutes. Take longer to mark four marks, evenly spaced along the diameter of the mounting hole. Another subtlety is that the standard washer cannot secure the disk on my renovator. The washer must be adjusted to at least 5 mm. larger diameter. That's it - this is where the preparatory work ends and you can start testing.
In the workshop, I hammered 5 nails into a wooden block in a row almost close to each other. In order not to delay the process, I used nails with a diameter of 2.5 mm. A good test bench.

I started sawing the nails at the root - flush with the block. After 45 seconds I turned off the renovator because... I realized that I would cut off the nails, but would not get a complete picture of the capabilities of the new attachment. The disc cuts perfectly. In 45 seconds of sawing, the nails were cut down to 2/3 of the thickness.

Of course, the grinder would cut them down in a couple of seconds, but I practically have a chisel in my hands and it can do what the grinder can’t do. The idea came to cut two medium ones from a row of nails. To do this, the disk needs to be modified. Using wire cutters, I gave the disk a shape suitable for cutting out medium-sized nails.

A few more seconds - the middle nail is defeated.

It was already cut in the first stage. A whole nail would last much longer. About two minutes.
The so-called attachment works and is very successful. But I have something to compare with. It is important to understand whether branded attachments are better or worse.

Nozzle 1. Included. Judging by the tooth on the tree.

I sawed off plastic fittings with a diameter of 12 mm with it once. It's called plastic, but it's actually fiberglass. The file was seriously damaged.

Nozzle 2. DeWalt. Wood and metal.

I used it to saw off an M8 steel pin twice. The file was seriously damaged. Very disappointed.

Nozzle 3. Bosch. Wood and metal.

My favorite attachment (was). I sawed with it a lot, but I won’t cut steel with it - it’s a pity.
Now conclusions on a homemade attachment from a disc from an angle grinder. A new disc costs 18 rubles. I used a discarded one with the edge broken off. With the defect, it began to cut even better than the new one. Saws everything - tiles, ceramics, glass, steel, etc.I haven’t tried it on wood, but I think it will be bad to saw. Wood needs teeth. It will cut through, of course, but it’s not convenient. Photos of the attachments are a visual representation that any of them can be chewed out of the disk. You can give it any shape - straight, rounded, narrow, wide. Shorter, longer.
One disc makes a bunch of attachments. Inexpensive and good. A truly versatile DIY attachment.
Thank you.

I liked your idea. I myself suffer with these files - they become dull and crumble. Boshevsky ones, however, last longer, but nevertheless... Question about safety - maybe you really need to attach some kind of protective casing from the same angle grinder, or is this unnecessary, since there is no rotation? And also regarding the fastening - I have not four of these “stumps” on the flange of the cartridge, but as many as 12 (!) - you’ll be tormented by sawing the grooves, what do you recommend? Thank you.

The renovator is hundreds of times safer than the grinder. The grinder has just crazy speed and when the disk is destroyed during operation, its fragment weighing 10 g has the same energy as a bullet from a powerful air gun, for which you already need to buy a license. Search - the Internet is full of photos of the Bulgarian victims.

Have you ever tried sawing/cutting thread with a grinder?
        I'm sure not!
cutting 230 is much safer than 125
and you argue that the disc will fly apart like a bullet :) it’s funny to listen to sofa people.

I’ll definitely do the same when it’s warm!
it will be really great, because it will be interesting to climb inside channel 110 and make a cut in cast iron, I hope it will work :)
