You can make the tube yourself from cardboard of any size, or you can use a ready-made one - the inside of a toilet paper roll. You can also either take a ready-made ball, but if you don’t have one, you can make it yourself.
A small piece of plasticine with metal objects that are unnecessary in the household can be easily turned into a heavy ball by hiding the parts (nuts or bolts) in a plasticine shell.
The edges of the cardboard tube must be sealed with cloth, after placing a ball in it. It’s best to take used fabric so that it has a slight stretch, but you need to seal the bells quite tightly: this will increase the toy’s rollability.First, glue one side of the tube, place a ball in it and seal the other side.
You need to immediately check the operation of the mechanism by placing it along the intended trajectory of movement on an inclined plane. Due to the rolling of the ball inside the tube, the mechanism should make tumbling movements.
Now we cut out the details of the soft toy: two patterns of the head, a part of the body - two ovals or one piece in the shape of “8”.
When making a head, you should first make 4 darts on each piece.
Then we sew the head itself.
After turning the sewn part inside out, we put it on the tube mechanism and fill the remaining voids with pieces of foam rubber or padding polyester.
We also make 4 darts on each half of the body and sew the body together.
Then we put it on the remaining part of the tube and also fill it with filler. Sew the head to the body.
We make 4 legs from circles by stitching the edges of the circles with a “forward needle” seam or sewing a piece along the edge. The thread should be pulled together and filled with filler.
We sew the legs to the body.
We place eyes on the head: we glue the cardboard ones, and we sew on the button eyes. It is possible to use ready-made eyes purchased in special stores that sell goods for manual labor.
Instead of a spout, a small ball of black fabric, made according to the algorithm for making paws, is perfect. But it is also possible to use a regular button with a stem.
This toy tumbles around very funny when placed on an inclined surface. The child can also put the soft teddy bear to sleep next to him. And if you wish, you can play with it the same way as with another regular toy. And it’s absolutely wonderful if a child participates in the making of this simple crafts, becoming familiar with kinetics and acquiring manual skills.
