What you will need:
- latex gloves;
- wide metal container to fit the grille size;
- "Mole" remedy.
Cleaning will be done with a drain cleaner. It is usually sold under the name "Mole". It is nothing more than an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. If during the search you cannot find a product with that name, then you can use any other one, the main thing is that the concentration of sodium hydroxide is at the level of 15-30%, no more.
Cleaning the grille
To clean, you need to remove the grille from the hood. Depending on the configuration of the latter, the grille can be single or double. Next, it needs to be placed in any metal container with a wide bottom. An oven tray is sufficient for a double rack.
The container with the grate is placed outside or on the balcony.It is better not to clean indoors, since the process is accompanied by evaporation of water and a characteristic odor from the solution. “Mole” is poured on top of the grate; it is better that it is completely immersed in the liquid.
A chemical reaction will immediately begin with a strong release of heat and the rise of dirty foam with dissolved fat.
It is important that if the grate is made of aluminum, it cannot be kept in the product for more than 2-3 minutes in the summer, and 10 minutes when reacting in the cold. Otherwise, after the grease, the product will begin to dissolve the metal; of course, this will not happen instantly, but after a couple of dozen cycles of such a prolonged wash, traces of corrosion may remain. The stainless steel grid is completely neutral to sodium hydroxide.
After the recommended time has elapsed, the grid is removed, even if the reaction of the product has not yet completed, and washed under running water.
You only need to wash off the foam; there will be no grease on it. After drying, it is installed in place.
This method allows you to clean the grille even inside, which is almost impossible with mechanical washing. The main thing is to wear gloves to avoid getting burned, since the product gets very hot during the chemical reaction.
