Manufacturing of the machine
A piece of railway rail 110 mm long is used as the base of the machine.
Its head is convex, so it needs to be sanded flat. This is convenient to do with a grinder with a petal wheel.
3 blind holes are made in the rail head using a 14 mm drill. To do this, marks are applied with a core, located as the vertices of an isosceles triangle.
The distance between the points at its base is 40 mm, and the distance from the base to the third vertex is 22 mm. The rail is difficult to drill, so thin drills are used first, and then the holes are widened to 14 mm.
Drilling depth 10-15 mm.You can also immediately make through holes in the corners of the sole, so that you can then screw the machine to a tabletop or wooden block.
From steel round timber with a diameter of 14 mm you need to cut 3 fingers 40 mm long. They are pressed into holes in the rail head.
Next, you need to make 2 levers from the rail neck. In this place the rail has a thickness of 15 mm, so they are resistant to deformation from load. The size of the levers is 25x250 mm.
A through hole is drilled at the edge of each lever using a 14 mm drill. Another blind hole is made at an indent from it for half the cross-section of the workpiece. The distance between the centers of the holes is 22 mm.
Then the levers need to be divided into 3 equal parts and cut at the marks to half the thickness in order to bend. The first cut is made on the opposite side of the blind hole. To make a cut along the next mark, the workpiece is turned back over. As a result, the lever along the first line bends in one direction, and along the second in the opposite direction. After bending, the cuts are welded and the seams are sanded.
2 more fingers are cut from round timber, but already 20 mm long. They are driven into blind holes on the levers.
Then the levers are installed on the spikes in the rail, which are preliminarily fitted with a washer.
The machine is screwed through holes in the sole to the tabletop or simply clamped in a vice. A piece of rod is placed between his fingers, which is bent into a chain link by the movement of the levers. The next rod is passed through it and also bent. As a result, a chain of the required length is made. After this, the links are welded, and it can be used for its intended purpose.
