Basic materials:
- bearing with an inner race of 18-20 mm;
- pipes of different diameters;
- nuts, washers, bolts M8, M12, M14;
- steel strip or sheet metal;
- steel round timber 14-20 mm;
- hacksaw for wood.
The process of making an attachment for an angle grinder
In order for the grinder to produce reciprocating movements, you need to equip its shaft with an eccentric. To do this, an M14 washer and a bearing are put on it. Then you need to machine a tab from steel to install between the inner race of the bearing and the shaft.
Then the eccentric is tightened with an M14 nut.
Next, you need to select a pipe with an internal diameter corresponding to the circumference of the angle grinder body at the installation site of the protective casing. A ring is cut from it, which needs to be cut lengthwise. An M8 nut is welded onto the workpiece along the edges. The result is a clamp, tightened with a bolt.To make it easier to screw in the bolt, the threads in one nut need to be drilled.
A wing should be welded onto the head of the bolt so that you can rotate it by hand without a wrench.
A piece of thick-walled tube is welded to the side of the clamp. If you have a lathe, it can be turned from round timber.
Next, the attachment for the nail file is made. For it, you need to grind a pin for installation in a tube welded to the clamp. The finger becomes longer than she does. A groove is machined on the bottom for the retaining ring. On the part extending beyond the tube, a thread is cut to accommodate the nail file. A protrusion is left between the flat part and the threaded half.
A steel plate with a hole for access to the angle grinder shaft is welded to the pin at the transition to the thread. Stiffening ribs are welded from below to the plate so as to compress the bearing. So, when rotating, the bearing will move the plate back and forth.
A file for the renovator is cut from a wood hacksaw blade. In its back part a groove is cut to fit the width of the finger thread. The file is applied to the finger and pressed with a nut through the gasket and washer.
The resulting equipment is installed and removed from the angle grinder in 2-3 minutes.
The tool has a similar blade stroke as the original renovators. You can even clamp store-bought nail files onto it.
