In order for all angles to be preserved and editing to be successful, you need to apply the cutting edge to the abrasive disk strictly parallel to the axis of rotation of the sandpaper.
In this case, the metal will be removed evenly and the angle will not move to the side. In this case, it is important to hold the drill itself strictly horizontally and apply the edge to the circle above the axis of rotation. Thus, due to the round shape of the disk, the main removal of metal will occur behind the cutting edge, which is what is needed.
Important! The cutting edge is coaxial with the emery shaft, the drill is positioned horizontally when sharpening, and the edge is applied to the disk above the axis.
If later, when drilling metal, chips emerge from under both edges in the form of a spiral, then the drill is sharpened as needed. Using this method, you can literally spend 1 minute straightening one drill.
