If an old hacksaw has become dull, you need to update its tooth alignment and sharpening. After this it will cut like new. Sharpening a hacksaw is much more profitable than changing it, so this skill will definitely come in handy.

Hacksaw sharpening process
Before sharpening, you need to set the teeth. If there is no special tool for this, it can be made with a thin steel plate. When setting with a large overhang, a cut is made on it according to the height of the tooth.
The hacksaw is clamped in a vice.
Then each tooth is caught with a cut on the plate and bent through one in one direction, then passed in the opposite direction. In general, each of them should bend in the same direction in which it was originally tilted, then only with a larger overhang.
Even easier, the wiring is done simply with a smooth plate. It is inserted between the teeth and turned out so that it is parallel to the blade. This movement causes the tooth to bend. Then it turns the other way and bends the next tooth in the opposite direction.In this way, the setting is narrower, but with the same offset on each tooth.
Then you need to sharpen each tooth bent away from you. To do this, a triangular file is applied to the blade at an angle of 35-40°. Both edges of the tooth are sharpened. In this case, the file is guided only upward. For each edge, 4-8 movements are enough, it all depends on the degree of wear of the file.
The hacksaw is then turned over in a vice and the remaining teeth are sharpened. After that, she will cut through the wood like butter. If you use a hacksaw infrequently, this procedure is repeated once every couple of years, or even less often.
