How to sharpen a knife when there is no sharpening wheel, sandpaper or other goodies at hand with which you could sharpen a dull knife? Believe me, there is something for sharpening a knife in almost every kitchen. This is an ordinary mug! Ceramic or clay doesn't really matter.


A plate or some other piece of kitchen utensil may also be suitable, as long as the edge is free from the glossy coating (enamel) on the back side. See picture.


In general, we take a knife in one hand, a mug in the other, and with back-and-forth movements we sharpen the cutting edge of the knife.




Let's check.


Cuts great! And don’t worry about the dishes - nothing happened to them, not one bit.

PS: After sharpening, you need to rinse the knife in water to remove particles formed during sharpening. Well, don’t forget to wash the mug accordingly.

    This is not sharpening, but editing. You can just as well use the butt of another knife. If the RK is killed, then at least use the bottom of the bath; sharpening without a sharpening stone (at least one) is not an option.

      Right. This is similar to the effect of the musat that cooks use to straighten their knives after almost every operation, at least daily. That is, the sharpening must initially be correct, and this is just a way to preserve it longer.

    well, the idea is right in the right direction, but without a sharpener or at least a sharpener, this is a crutch that will work for one evening, no one will rub it on a mug for a year)

    In emergency situations, I also had to sharpen bricks. It’s not comfortable, but you can sharpen a knife on a red brick.
