It all started with the fact that I wanted rosary beads for my car, but I didn’t want to buy ones that were the same type or not very attractive. And I remembered how, probably in 2013, an acquaintance gave me small flip-over rosary beads. And he told their story that they were from Butyrka, and were made from disposable tableware and assembled with a string from a bag of sugar. So I decided to make the rosary myself.

We will need:

  • Prepared matrix.
  • An awl, a knitting needle, I use a screwdriver on which I cut off the tip.
  • The candle is ordinary.
  • Plastic spoons, forks.
  • Knitting threads.
  • Plastic balls for brushes.

Matrix

First, it was necessary to make a so-called matrix, which would try out the shape of the beads and make them the same. Just at one of the sites (I do apartment renovations) I dismantled old cornices, and the fastenings from them were very suitable for matrices. I made two, for large beads and for small ones. I sawed off the fastenings with a grinder and bent them. I made a recess at the end of the ear and drilled a hole through it on the opposite side so that the screwdriver on which the molten plastic would be placed would easily fit into the hole and fit into the recess.

Winding tool

I then used a thin flathead screwdriver to screw the plastic onto it, cutting the tip off. It is possible to use an awl or a knitting needle, but I came across a screwdriver and it has a handle, it will be comfortable to heat and not get burned.

Process

Now light the candle and hold a screwdriver with a plastic fork over the candle. When it heats up, it will begin to screw itself onto the screwdriver; if not, we will help it with our fingers. We twist the fork all the way, don’t let it burn, just melt, and put it into the matrix, start twisting it to form a ball. We warm it several times and scroll all these times to the desired and beautiful shape. At the end, we heat it up for gloss and dip it in water for 3 seconds, do not overexpose it, then do not remove it from the screwdriver. This is how we make 33 beads.

Assembling rosary

We assemble the rosary on a rope or thread, I bought a cord at a handicraft store, my wife makes bracelets from them. We collect all the shorts on a thread and one ball, two threads at once. Next you need to make a hemisphere for the brush. I took plastic balls, again from the craft store, sawed them in half and made a niche in the middle. It is also inserted into two laces and sold around the tassel and again into the hemisphere back, where we tie it in a knot.

Brush

I make a tassel from knitting threads. We wind the required amount, I take the book, I didn’t count how many turns, who needs which lush one. We tie a thin thread on the edge of the book, thereby securing the tassel. We tighten it into the rosary as described above, and under the tension of the scissors, we cut off the other edge of the winding. We comb it with one leg of the scissors and cut it evenly, repeat several times.

The rosary is ready. At first I made it from white dishes, but then I saw multi-colored cosmetics in the magnet, now there are no limits to imagination, and the rosary will be of different colors and beauties!
