There is no universal soldering iron that can solder both twisted wires and SMD components with equal quality and convenience. There is an ideal device for every task. Some of them you can literally do yourself.
1. Simple twist welding machine
For this homemade product, you need to remove the graphite rod from the battery. Then you will need to install 2 thicker wires on the battery terminals. A rod is connected to the edge of one of them.
This device can be used for welding strands. The wire from the negative terminal is applied at its beginning, and the electrode is pressed against the edge for a few moments. As a result, the twist will be welded.
2. Infrared soldering iron from the cigarette lighter
A car cigarette lighter can be used to make an infrared soldering iron for SMD components. To do this, its outer casing is torn off. Then one wire is wound to the cup of the heating element, and the second to the remaining contact.
This soldering iron is connected to a battery or 12V power supply, or even from a PC. The heat generated by the heating element is enough to solder SMD components.
3. Tip for a pulse soldering iron
You can install a homemade copper wire tip in a pulse soldering iron. It differs from the standard one in the presence of turns in front of the double tip. Due to its massiveness, such a tip holds the temperature better. In addition, it holds more solder.
4. Double tip for SMD components
To simultaneously solder two legs of SMD components, you can wrap thick copper wire around the tip of the soldering iron. Its edges are spread apart to the required distance. We get 2 soldering tips.
You can also form a frame from wire. This will allow all legs of the complex component to be heated evenly.
5. Do-it-yourself pulse soldering iron
2 halves of a soldering iron body with a pistol grip are cut out of plywood or boards. Then a bracket is bent from the copper busbar. For it you need to cut grooves in the body.
The bracket is inserted into the housing, and a round ferrite core for the inductor is placed on it. 4 turns of 2 mm copper wire are wound onto the latter.
We supply power to the coil according to the proposed circuit using field-effect transistors IRF3205 and resistors 470 Ohm, 100 Ohm. A contact button is installed on the handle and a sting on the tires. The result is a powerful 12V soldering iron with instant heating.
6. Soldering iron for tinning from a field-effect transistor
It is necessary to wind the wire to the third leg of the field-effect transistor IRF3205. Legs 1 and 2 are twisted with a second wire.
An insulator stick is placed between them and tied. Now when 12V DC power is supplied, the transistor will heat up.
Due to its width, it is convenient for them to tin plate boards and various planes.
