Oil is used to impregnate wood to reveal its structure. Unfortunately, in its pure form it can excessively darken the wood. In this regard, it is better to make a diluted homemade impregnation based on oil. It only slightly tints the wood, penetrates deeply into the fibers, and most importantly provides 100% protection from water.
Materials:
- White Spirit;
- linseed oil;
- paraffin or wax.
The process of preparing homemade wood impregnation
To prepare the composition, you need to mix oil and white spirit in a ratio of 1:7. By changing their ratio, you can make the impregnation darker or lighter. The components should be at room temperature so that wax does not curdle when poured into them later.
Next you need to melt the paraffin or wax in a water bath. Its amount should be approximately 25% of the oil volume.
The wax is poured into the oil with the solvent in a thin stream and mixed.
If they are cold, then it will begin to instantly solidify, forming balls.After stirring, the impregnation is ready for use.
The composition is absorbed very well into the wood, so it can even be applied with a brush. Work is carried out outdoors or with good ventilation.
White spirit evaporates very quickly, so the surface will be ready for use in less than an hour. Impregnation ensures absolute moisture protection of the wood and darkens it only by a few tones.
