If you're tired of constantly untangling your electrical extension cord, then it's time to think about a reel for winding it. It never gets tangled and is always kept in order. In addition, the cable on a reel lasts longer and is assembled and unwound faster.

The process of making a reel from wood
First you need to make a reel drum. To do this, 2 large disks are cut out of plywood.
Then they are connected to each other by strip pieces aligned in the shape of a cylinder in the center. The latter should be processed before this, namely, their corners should be cut off so that they do not spoil the cable during winding.
Glue and screws are used for connection.
You need to drill a hole in the center of the reel drum and press a sleeve from the tube into it. To prevent it from turning, it is better to plant using glue.
Next, a stand for the drum is made. It is made from a 50x50 mm block or a strip glued together in several layers.
You need to make a hole in the center of the rack and insert a pin into it, securing it with nuts. To prevent the nut from sticking out on the reverse side, it is optimal to recess it into the hole. A large dowel is glued to one edge of the stand, which will replace the handle for transporting the reel. On the lower part you need to form a spike to connect to the sole.
A plywood base is screwed to the stand. Here you can make an interesting solution and leave part of the thorn as a leg. In this case, you will need to attach 2 more legs to the sole. This configuration allows you to strengthen the structure by gluing a small strip to the protruding tenon.
A through hole is drilled in the rack just above the axis for the drum, and a long thin pin with a wing head is screwed into it. This will be the drum lock.
A hole is drilled in the drum into which the cable is inserted. A socket is mounted on its edge and immediately screwed from the outside. On the same side, a wooden handle is installed on the drum.
Next, a plug is mounted on the second edge of the cable.
The drum is installed on a stand. To prevent it from being removed, a nut and washer are screwed onto the axle.
A thumb lock is used to prevent the coil from unwinding.
