When working in a workshop, the need for clamps constantly arises, and there are rarely enough of them. We offer a method for their manufacture. It allows you to make any required number of clamps with a minimum set of tools.

Materials:

  • Steel plate 10mm or thicker;
  • a bolt with a diameter of half the cross-section of a steel plate;
  • round timber 10-20 mm;
  • wire 3-6 mm.

Clamp manufacturing process

A square plate is cut out of thick sheet metal, from which the clamp frame will later be made. The larger the clamp is needed, the larger the workpiece is taken.

Next, you need to drill it in the center with a crown north, and make a cut on one side, setting a C-shape.

Now you need to drill one jaw of the frame. It is important that the hole runs parallel to the plane of the workpiece. This can be done by placing a stopper made of plywood or boards and resting against it.

Then a thread is cut into the hole for the screw.

The bed needs to be sharpened, smoothing out the angularities. It is also advisable to sand it, then paint it or make it blued (see how to make simple blueing here - https://enn.washerhouse.com/4786-3-proverennyh-sposoba-voronenie-nozha.html).

Next you need to work on the clamp screw. To do this, use a bolt of suitable length. To make a stop for it, you need to select a round rod approximately equal to the diameter of the bolt head. The workpiece is drilled in the center to a depth of 10 mm. To do this, use a drill that is smaller in diameter than the bolt shank. Then a drilled piece is cut from the round timber to make a washer.

2 nuts are attached to the bolt so that its edge protrudes beyond them slightly more than the width of the homemade washer. This part is ground down so that it fits on it.

In the machined end of the bolt, you need to drill a hole to a depth of 2-3 mm, creating a thin edge around the circumference. You also need to drill across its head.

Now the handle blank is cut from the wire. Its edges need to be spread and inserted into the hole in the bolt head. Then you need to unfasten the second end in the same way.

The bolt is wrapped into the frame. A stop is placed on its edge, and a ball from the bearing is attached to the drilled edge. Now, by compressing the bolt with a larger clamp or vice, you can bend the edge at the end outward, thereby fixing the support plate.

In the end, all that remains is to paint or glaze the instrument.

Using this method, if you have a sharpening, lathe and drilling machine, you can quickly make a whole set of such clamps.

    Very simple! Just a couple of days of machine work and the clamp is ready, which in the store costs less than the material from which this is made...
