Using simple devices, you can easily transform a steel strip into a ring along the wide side. Bending on edge is much more difficult, and not everyone can do it. By making another simple device, the process of converting a plate into a ring can be significantly simplified and accelerated.

Will need

  • steel strip;
  • equal-flange steel angle;
  • a short piece of round pipe;
  • bolt and nut;
  • lever with ring and stop;
  • a piece of profile square pipe.
For work we will need: a device for bending arcs of circles from a strip, a heavy hammer, welding, pliers, a drilling machine (drill) and a grinder.

The process of manufacturing a device for bending strips on an edge

We alternately place two steel strips with the narrow side between the “ears”, transversely welded to the base and neck of the rail laid on its side. We hit the inner narrow side of the strips evenly and with equal force with a hammer, moving them between the head and the base of the rail.

If the strip bends to the side, then we eliminate this defect by hitting the hammer in the opposite direction.

We lay the third steel strip on the rail head and the rod welded transversely to the head flat, and make a circular arc.

We weld circles curved onto an edge along the edges of a bent flat arc along cylindrical surfaces and obtain an arc segment with a slotted recess sufficient to accommodate a steel strip from which we will make a circle on an edge.

We flat weld a tightening steel strip to the inner ends of the resulting structure.

We weld this unit with its flat side surface to the back of the channel, welded from two equal angles, aligning the tension strip with one of the long edges of the channel.

We press a fragment of a round pipe, mounted with its end face on the back of the channel, to the tightening strip from the inside in the center, and weld it to the channel and strip.

We drill a hole in the back of the channel closer to one edge of the arc-shaped structure. We insert a bolt into it from above, and screw a nut from below, which we weld to the channel.

We firmly attach the device to the vertical stand.

Edge bending process

In the space between the bolt and the arcuate elements we insert a steel plate onto the edge.

First, we bend the initial section of the plate closer to the bolt using only our hands.

Then we put a ring on top of a fragment of a round pipe, to which a lever is diametrically welded with a stop pointing downward at 90 degrees relative to the plane of the ring.

We bend other sections of the plate, turning the lever to the side so that the stop, sliding along the outer surface of the plate, bends it into a circle.

To facilitate the bending process, we put a square pipe on the end of the lever, thereby lengthening the arm.

If the strip is deformed in the transverse direction, straighten it and knock it into the gap with a hammer. When the ends of the strip cross, unscrew the bolt and cut off the extra piece with a grinder to make a circle from the strip on the edge.
