With the onset of frost, the windshield wipers on a car parked in the open air freeze to the glass. If you tear them off by force, you can simply tear the rubber brushes, so the problem requires a more delicate solution. Let's consider 3 options for combating wipers freezing to the glass.

1. Leave the wipers in a vertical position

When completing the trip, turn on the windshield wipers, and when they are in a vertical position, turn off the ignition. With this arrangement, there will not be as much moisture on the brushes, so the likelihood of freezing will be greatly reduced. Water will be able to flow down immediately and not linger.

The method will be even more effective if you first equalize the temperature in the cabin with the outside temperature. Just 5 minutes before the end of the trip you need to turn off the stove and open the windows slightly. You can also stand in the parking lot for a while with the doors open. In a cold car, the snow does not melt and turn into an ice crust. Thanks to this, you won’t have to clean the glass with a scraper in the morning.

2. Place a stand from a stationery binder

The lifting method will not work with cars in which the wipers return to their original position after the ignition is turned off. In this case, you can use the following method. Take a paper binder and remove its wire staple. You need to put a heat shrink tube on it and shrink it.

It is best to use 2 layers, especially on the bend of the bracket.

The binder is clamped onto the windshield wipers, and when parked, its bracket folds down to the glass to lift the blades. They will be slightly suspended, so they will definitely not freeze. If you turn on the wipers, the bracket will fold back and the brush will press against the glass. This method allows you to combat freezing without stretching the windshield wiper clamping spring.

3. Install a special stand

You can find specialized stands for wipers on sale. They are clamped and adjusted to the required height.

When parking the car, you need to lift the wiper and unfold the stand. Then, when the windshield wipers are turned on, it automatically reclines and the pressure resumes.

It turns out to be a similar principle as with a binder, only the special stand reclines more stable.
