The saw chain of a chainsaw can be sharpened in a workshop (service price from 250 rubles) or with your own hands if you have special tools. But what to do when the tool becomes dull at the cutting site or in places where there are no workshops or special sharpening devices? In this case, you can use diamond-coated attachments and return the chainsaw to functionality quickly and without any problems yourself, knowing a few simple sharpening rules.

The process of sharpening a saw chain with diamond-coated attachments

The use of diamond-coated attachments for sharpening the cutting links of a chainsaw saw chain is not only attractive because of its simplicity and efficiency. The cutters also provide a gentle sharpening process, removing a minimum thickness of metal layer from the cutting tooth compared to emery or grinder. This allows for a greater number of sharpenings, which significantly increases the service life of the chain before it is completely worn out.

If you continue to work with a dull saw chain, you will need to apply more physical force to the tool, cutting performance will drop, the engine will begin to overload, excessive fuel consumption will increase and the overall life of the chainsaw will run out catastrophically quickly. Therefore, you cannot delay sharpening the chain.

You can sharpen cutting teeth with diamond-coated attachments without removing the saw chain from the guide bar, which in logging conditions will not only reduce sharpening time, but will also provide certain convenience. But you just need to put the chain on the brake.

For convenience, first sharpen the left and then the right teeth, or vice versa. We place the cutter between the cutting edge of the tooth and the cut depth limiter at an angle of 25-30 degrees in the horizontal plane and perpendicular to the chain in the vertical plane.

When sharpening, the cutter should rise slightly above the tooth and rotate towards it. This method is good because it does not burn the tip of the tooth or weaken it, as happens when sharpening with sandpaper or a grinder with their high speeds.

By the way, instead of a screwdriver, you can use a drill or drill at a speed of up to 2000 rpm. But this requires extreme care, since the metal removal is intense.

Since the tooth height decreases with each sharpening of the chain, it is necessary to sharpen the cut depth limiter after 2-3 sharpenings with a flat file or simply a diamond-coated attachment.
