High-quality soldering of aluminum parts requires special electrodes, argon welding, special equipment and tools. This is due to the fact that the aluminum surface is instantly covered with an oxide film and its tinning is almost impossible. But with the simplest and most common tools, as well as a piece of ordinary tin, any adult can restore an aluminum part.

Will need

Materials and tools:

  • aluminum container with a through crack;
  • an ordinary piece of tin;
  • Bulgarian;
  • screwdriver with a metal brush;
  • filled gas burner;
  • bench vice;
  • ticks.

The process of soldering aluminum with ordinary tin without using flux

To solder a through crack, for example, in an aluminum container, it is necessary to tin the surface around the damage site. To do this, as noted above, is very difficult and almost impossible due to the instantaneous formation of an oxide film.

But it is quite possible to cope with such a seemingly insurmountable difficulty if you have on hand an ordinary screwdriver with a metal brush, a charged gas burner and a simple piece of tin.

To do this, we fix the aluminum container in a bench vice, heat the surface around the crack with the flame of a gas burner, melt a small amount of tin, which we hold with pliers and distribute in a thin layer around the damaged area.

Next, we mechanically process the surface of the hardened tin with a screwdriver and a metal brush and thus complete the tinning of the surface of the aluminum container adjacent to the crack.

Now, on the tinned surface, without much difficulty, using the flame of a gas burner, we melt a sufficient amount of tin so that it is able to cover the entire crack with a reserve.

We proceed to carefully processing the deposited tin to give the soldering area an aesthetic appearance. If necessary, add small portions of tin, evenly distributing it over the surface around the through crack in the aluminum container.

At the same time, we make sure that the surface is perfectly sealed, and after it has cooled, we begin grinding using a regular grinder. After finishing the grinding process, we notice that the soldering turned out to be monolithic, which we verify by pouring water into the container. Not a single drop or even a semblance of moisture can be detected outside.
