A factory grill is expensive. And I really want to treat my loved ones to barbecue, seafood, mushrooms and vegetables cooked on the grill or grill. And this is possible if you have a 200 liter metal barrel and some auxiliary materials. Moreover, it is enough to be able to handle simple tools for metal and wood.

Will need

Materials:

  • metal barrel 200 l;
  • round, profile square and rectangular pipes;
  • steel strip;
  • bolts and nuts;
  • round rod;
  • steel sheet;

The process of making a home grill from an old metal barrel

We wash the barrel of dirt. From the top edging we put 4.5 cm down and cut off the top part.

We cut out the filler and flange necks and cut the future cap into halves.

Using a profile bending machine, we bend the profile square pipe into a ring to fit the size of the lid, divide it in half, and place it inside the lid halves. We weld a section of the same pipe to the ends and weld everything to the lid. We also bend the steel strip into two rings.

Cut one ring into halves and place it on the outside of the lid. We drill holes, cut threads and fasten with bolts. We weld the joint of the second ring, wrap it around the top of the barrel, secure it with clamps, drill holes and tighten it with bolts and nuts.

From sheet metal we make a trapezoidal figure in plan with an arched large base, which we apply from the outside to the top of the ring on the barrel and weld it. We put the lid halves in place.

We cut two equal sections of pipe along the generatrices and compress them with the jaws of a vice, selecting gaps up to the value of free rotation of the rods. We weld the remaining gaps.

We place the bushings with the rods vertically on a shelf welded to the outer ring of the barrel, press it against it and weld it, and weld the rods with their bases to the shelf. We also weld two tubes to the shelf, equal in height to the rods.

We place a plate on the rods and tubes and screw them to the rods with bolts, drill holes in the center and cut threads. Now the parts of the lid can be easily moved to the sides.

We make radial slots at the end of the semicircle and weld the ends inside the barrel opposite the lid rotation unit.

We cut a circle out of a sheet of metal and place it in a barrel at the level of the stiffener.

We remove the handle from the old deep fryer, unbend the side walls and remove fat deposits. We place the grid over the semicircle in the barrel and mark the contact points on it.

Using the marks, we cut out a fragment, which we place between the semicircle and the wall of the barrel and weld it. We cut out an opening symmetrically to the mesh on the side surface of the barrel.

At the bottom of the barrel, in the flange, we make 4 slots on the perpendicular axes of the circle. We place in them radially sections of profile rectangular pipes with swivel wheels from the cargo trolley welded at the outer ends and weld them.

We paint the structure and place a circle of solid wood on the bottom of the barrel. The same circle, cut in half, is placed in lid halves soaked in compositions based on natural ingredients.

Above the steel partition, we drill holes around the circumference to allow air to enter the combustion zone inside the barbecue grill. We use the bottom to store fuel and kindling. We place food and utensils on parts of the lid.

We light a fire in the grill and after the coals have formed, place skewers with shish kebab between the edging of the grid and the end of the barrel. We cook mushrooms, seafood, vegetables, etc. on the grill.
