How many remote controls do you have at home? Definitely not alone. TV remote control, air conditioning remote control, lighting remote control... Perhaps something else. And trouble can happen to each of them - it stops working. The three most common malfunctions of remote controls and how to repair them are in this article.

The design of almost all remote controls is the same. The plastic case consists of two halves - upper and lower. They are connected to each other using plastic latches. When disassembling the remote control, you only need to carefully separate them without breaking them. And to assess the performance of remote controls, it is convenient to use a special infrared radiation tester. A cell phone camera will also work.

Malfunction No. 1. Solder failure

Such a malfunction can be easily detected by visual inspection. Most often, such a defect occurs in the places where connectors and power wires are soldered, as well as in the place where the radiating device is installed on the main board. LED.

That is, those parts that rise and protrude beyond the main printed circuit board.Restoring the device to functionality is not difficult. It is enough to solder the damaged area again with a soldering iron. When soldering, solder flux should be used.

Malfunction No. 2. Some buttons don't work

Remote controls use a special rubber plate with a conductive layer applied to it as buttons. And a special composition is also applied to the main board. It's cheap and technologically advanced. The downside is that this conductive layer wears out over time and stops shorting the pads on the board. It is almost impossible to buy a new rubber band for the remote control. What to do? A piece of foil will help with this problem. You can take a cigarette pack wrapper.

The foil is glued to the damaged buttons, and the excess is removed.

The check shows that the remote control is operational again.

Malfunction No. 3. Mechanical damage to the housing

The plastic from which the remote control body is made is quite fragile. It will definitely break if it accidentally falls from a height or when someone carelessly sits on the remote control. And in this case, the problem can be solved using a soldering iron. The plastic of the case melts easily and to restore integrity it is only necessary to treat the crack with a heated tip. And if you reinforce the repair site with pieces of wire, the strength will increase noticeably.

Remotes restored using these simple methods will serve you for a long time.
