If you regularly use a gas burner with piezo ignition, you have probably encountered a situation where a gas leak occurs. Indeed, defective cylinders sometimes occur. But most often, leakage occurs through no fault of the cylinder. What is the reason?

There is a lot of advice on how to restore seals on the Internet. First of all, it is recommended to remove the burner from the cylinder during storage. Some people advise cutting additional gaskets from silicone hoses.

Buy new O-rings. But it turned out that most often the gas leak does not occur in the cylinder valve. By the way, it’s easy to check. Take the balloon, press its head all the way with your finger and listen. If the hissing of the escaping gas is not heard, then the valve is working. Where to look?

DIY gas burner repair with piezo ignition

The cause of a leak is most often not in the cylinder, but in the gas burner.

To fix it, use a small screwdriver to unscrew the plastic case and remove it. Next, unscrew the gas supply regulator clamp. There is no need to remove it completely; leave two or three turns.

We unscrew the regulator and see two rubber rings on it. They are the cause of most gas leaks.

You can change them if you have stocked up on the necessary rubber rings in advance. But you can do it differently. Using a thin tool, carefully remove the rings. They have hardened over time and are not given so easily. Trying not to damage it, stretch it a little at a time. Removed.

Next, take a regular sewing thread and wind it onto the groove in which the ring was located. You don't need to wrap a lot, one layer is enough. We put the ring back into the groove with the wound thread.

We tear off the rest of the thread and tuck the torn end under the ring. We do the same with the second ring. Apply some graphite grease. All.

We assemble burners. Then we check it for leaks. There are no leaks, and the gas adjustment has become smoother, without jerking.

In the future, when removing the burner from the cylinder, unscrew the regulator approximately halfway. Then the cuffs will not be constantly pinched in the valve.
