The need for a side folding ladder along the wall arises where there is little space and you have to use it from time to time. The number of steps and their sizes are determined by the total height of the staircase and its horizontal projection.

Making a folding ladder

The main strength and functional elements of the staircase will be rectangular frames, welded from blanks 60 and 20 cm long with ends cut at 45 degrees.

The blanks are made from galvanized profile rectangular pipes in quantities determined by the height and angle of inclination of the flight of stairs.

So that the frames can fully perform the function of steps, we weld 3 steel strips in the longitudinal direction at an equal distance and parallel to each other, which on the reverse side are reinforced with two transverse strips, welded at a distance of 1/3 and 2/3 from one of their short sides.

We make the required number of frames, lay them at a strictly defined angle on 2 guides, also from profile pipes of rectangular section and in accordance with the design height of the steps of the flight of stairs.

Under each frame we install a stop in the form of a right angle with sides of 29.5 and 20.5 cm, and weld them to the guides. We connect the frames to the side of the corner 20.5 cm long using two 20 mm cylindrical hinges turned on a lathe, one part of which is welded to the frame, and the other to the side of the thrust corner.

If you now lift the resulting structure by one of the guides and shift it relative to the other, then the frames will take a strictly defined position and can serve as steps of a flight of stairs.

To one of the guides we weld a structure consisting of the same profile pipes of a certain length and position, but filled with profile pipes of a smaller cross-section. It will serve as a stair railing. We weld a C-shaped handle to the smaller side of the thrust angle under the second bottom of the frame.

We weld 4 lugs to the bottom guide and begin grinding the weld seams. Next, paint the stairs in the desired color using a spray gun.

We install the ladder in the right place and fasten it to the wall with powerful screws, using the holes in the mounting lugs.

At the calculated location, we attach a clamp to the wall that will hold the ladder in the folded position. To install the ladder into working position, move the lock and lower the base of the ladder to the floor. In this case, the steps occupy a horizontal position, and the railings occupy a vertical position.
