At the dacha or in the house gazebo, folding chairs, which take up very little space when folded, will not be a problem. They can be made from the simplest and most inexpensive materials if you have basic carpentry and plumbing skills.

Will need

Materials:
  • Profile square pipe;
  • wooden beam;
  • glue;
  • pan head screws, washers and nuts;
  • multilayer laminated plywood;
  • flat head screws;
  • steel strips;
  • spray paint.
Tools: measuring and marking devices, hammer and core, drilling machine, screwdriver, tap, grinder, hand saw and metal file, etc.

Manufacturing process of a folding chair

According to calculations, we cut two pieces of three types of lengths from a profile square pipe.

In the longest pieces we mark and drill through holes in the center, in the middle ones - from one end, in the short ones - from both sides.

We cut internal plugs from square wooden beams, apply glue to them and hammer them into the ends of the blanks from the profile pipe.

Using the holes already prepared in the profile blanks, we drill holes in the internal wooden plugs.

We fasten the square pipe blanks with bolts with rounded heads, washers and nuts. We screw short ones to the long pieces in the center, and medium length ones to them.

We attach a back made of multilayer laminated plywood to the upper ends of the long blanks, laying it on the ends of the long blanks, marking and drilling two holes on both sides.

Using the holes in the back, we mark and drill holes in square blanks and cut the threads with a tap. We secure the backrest to the blanks with countersunk screws.

We place the lower ends of the chair legs on a flat surface and place a rigid stop so that the short pieces of square pipe take a horizontal position.

We apply two identical steel strips transversely to the front legs from the front and back sides to the circumference of the rear legs. We make markings, drill holes and make threads in the holes of the strips.

Using the holes in the strips, we drill corresponding holes in the front legs on both sides and tighten them with transverse strips using bolts. These strips will prevent the front legs from moving apart under load and serve as guides for the rear legs.

We try on a seat made of multi-layer laminated plywood with horizontal elements made of a square pipe.

In front of the seat, horizontally along its strength elements, we mark cutting lines for the protruding corners of the rear legs and remove them with a grinder according to the markings.

Having put the seat in place, we drill holes in it and the power elements.We fasten these parts with screws with flat countersunk heads.

We add rigidity to the rear legs by fastening them together with a steel plate closer to the lower ends through the through holes in the legs and the holes in the threaded strip with bolts.

We cut off the protruding ends of the coupling bolts and round them with a grinder.

We cut the supporting surfaces of the legs horizontally with a grinder and a hand hacksaw, remove burrs with a file and round the edges.

Having removed the back and seat, we paint the metal elements of the folding chair with spray paint and, after it dries, return the back and seat to their place.

The chair is completely ready for its intended use.
