Where to begin? Painting kitchen facades with your own hands is not that difficult. It is enough to have minimal drawing skills. You can familiarize yourself with the stages of painting using the example of this kitchen.
First of all, you need to decide on the plot of the drawing and its color scheme. Painting in the Provence style is characterized by delicate small bouquets of field plants and herbs. And one of the most popular subjects is a composition of lavender branches. This is exactly the motif that was used to paint the facades of this kitchen. To determine the color scheme, coloring is done on a piece of paper using colored pencils.It gives a clear idea of how the selected colors harmonize with each other.
The next stage is creating a sketch. When arranging a bouquet, you should take into account both the proportions of the kitchen facades and the dimensions of the room itself. In small kitchens, elegant compositions consisting of several stems of flowers and wild herbs will look most harmonious. If the kitchen facades are of different widths, then for larger doors the main bouquet should be increased by adding a few more flowers to it.
Selection of materials. Most artists prefer to use for painting furniture acrylic paints. They fit well on the base, dry quickly, and do not fade in the sun. The disadvantage of this material is that it is not very resistant to mechanical damage. Therefore, the finished painting will have to be coated with a protective varnish. It is not necessary to varnish a drawing with oil paints. You can speed up working with oil paints by using a thinner with a drier (a special substance that reduces the drying time of the paint).
Regardless of the type of paint chosen, when working you will need:
• a simple pencil (hardness B) for drawing the outline of the drawing on the facade
• several soft brushes of different thicknesses
• palette for mixing paints
• oiler for thinner
Layout and markup. To more clearly visualize the arrangement of images on the facades, you need to draw the outlines of the bouquets (in natural size) on pieces of tracing paper and attach them to the doors using masking tape or double-sided tape with low adhesion.
After the locations of the bouquets are determined, the tracing paper is removed and the drawing begins.If the artist does not have the skills to paint facades, then the images should be marked out in dimensions: in the places where the bouquets will be placed (using a tape measure and a pencil), draw rectangles according to the largest dimensions (height and width) of the drawing. Then the outline of the future painting fits into the rectangle. There is no need to strive to maintain the size of each branch or flower down to the millimeter. A slight “carelessness” of the drawing will show that it was made by hand.
Drawing. First, an underpainting is applied along the contour of the drawing - primary colors that will highlight the outlines of the image.
After the underpainting has dried, the details of the drawing are prescribed - additional colors and tones that will give the painting the desired color and volume. Acrylic paints dry very quickly. Subsequent layers can be applied a couple of hours after the underpainting has been completed. The oil will take a little longer to dry. On a regular thinner – up to 2 days, on a thinner with a drier – about 12 hours. To varnish the painting, it is better to use aerosol matte varnish.
