Decoupage Household items are a nice way to give a second life to old pantry items and a good way to add a little emotion and personal touch.
In this master class we will look at a very simple way to make decoupage of a knife stand that any beginner can handle. The process is quite exciting and will take no more than one evening.

Take a regular wooden knife block, white acrylic paint and a sponge (it's better to cut off a small part of the sponge). Make sure the surface of the stand is dry and clean before painting.

Lightly dip a sponge into white paint and use a dotted motion to paint all sides of the knife holder. Instead of acrylic paint, you can paint it with white acrylic primer.

Paint the recess for the scissors with a brush (as well as other areas inaccessible to the sponge).

Leave to dry for 30-40 minutes until all edges of the stand are painted.

Different brands of acrylic paints do not have the same covering power, so before working with napkins, make sure that the background color is uniform and well painted. If the color is not good enough, paint the knife holder with a second coat.

Choose a napkin or card for decoupage with a suitable design. Try on several options.

If you plan to use only fragments of a decoupage card or napkin, then it is better to choose those with a light (or better yet white) background. This is important so that after gluing the fragment there is no sharp color transition.
Tear or cut off the desired parts of the design from the napkin. The border will be smoother and more beautiful if the fragment is carefully torn off. But in our case, the background of the napkin is too colorful, and the height is not enough to tear off fragments. In such cases, it is better to simply cut out the necessary fragments.

Decoupage napkins have 3 layers. Before gluing, be sure to peel off the top layer of the napkin. Only one layer of paint is needed to work.
Decoupage knife holder

Attach a fragment of the design to the knife holder and stick it using a flat brush and decoupage glue.
Decoupage knife holder

The correct direction for applying glue is from the center to the edges.

Glue all the selected fragments to different sides of the knife stand and leave to dry for 20-30 minutes.

Lightly dab the edges of the stand with a sponge and dark acrylic paint if the edges of the drawings are too distinct. To make the design stand out less from the white background, apply a little white paint to an old toothbrush and randomly spray the sides of the stand.
Decoupage knife holder

After complete drying, apply acrylic varnish with a brush and leave to dry for another 40 minutes.

The knife stand has been updated and is completely ready for its intended use.
