How to drill a hole in a tile with a regular drill bit

Let's imagine that you are faced with the task of hanging a toilet paper holder. The toilet is tiled, which makes the task much more difficult. What should I do to carefully drill a hole without breaking the tile? I will show you a way to do this simply, and even with an ordinary concrete drill.
Of course, the toilet paper holder is just an example. Using this method you can hang anything: a shelf, a mirror, a towel holder, etc.

Without a doubt, if you have a special drill for glass and tiles, then of course it is better to drill with it. I don’t have such a tool, due to the fact that I don’t often do repair work. A story from the household category.
Therefore, all I have is a set of concrete drills.
So let's get started. We try it on to the place where the holder will be for further installation. We glue pieces of electrical tape or masking tape to the drilling sites.

Now we mark the exact places for drilling. All I need to do is make four holes.

We do everything exactly.

Applying electrical tape is not only for marking. It prevents microcracks from spreading during drilling and protects the tile from breaking.

Now the most important operation. We take a concrete drill and place it on the mark. With gentle blows of the hammer, we begin to hit the drill, periodically turning the drill by hand. Time per hole is approximately one minute. As a result, a small groove should appear in the tile.

Everything needs to be done carefully, without haste. As a result, we perform the actions for all four holes.

The electrical tape can now be removed. We take a screwdriver and clamp the drill in the chuck.

If you have a hammer drill or impact drill and have Pobedit drills for concrete, then you don’t need anything special, just draw where the hole should be and the drills! The blows will easily pass through the tile and will not even break the hole too much.
Now, if you have neither, then drilling in concrete and tile will be a problem. Then you can tap the tiles with something. By the way, from the title of the article I thought it would be like this ;)

Are you sure you drilled with a hammer drill? Your tiles will immediately fall into pieces.
The author wrote everything correctly. When drilling tiles, set the hammer drill to DRILLING WITHOUT IMPACT mode.

From the title of the article, I thought that they would drill with metal drills (since they are usually called ordinary). In general, ordinary ceramic tiles are quite soft and can be easily drilled with drills for metal and concrete, and will even work with drills for wood. The only thing you can do is mark it with the same screw.

Amazing way. I am now 60 years old, and for 40 years I have been periodically drilling tiles with carbide drills without any problems. I especially liked the fact that the electrical tape protects from cracks and chips. Apparently the author picked up a drill for the first time and he succeeded. Glory to another inventor of the bicycle.

What was said above is correct.
I also drilled it with a regular drill at low speeds.

It’s easier to attach the holder to liquid nails. Everything holds up perfectly)
