How to quickly cook beets in the microwave

Do you want to prepare a salad with beets (for example, “Vinaigrette” or “Herring under a fur coat”), but you don’t have time to boil this “long-lasting” vegetable? Perhaps you shouldn’t deny yourself the pleasure and cook beets in the microwave? Then you won’t have to wait for the water to boil, regulate, and then also control its boiling level during cooking. All that is required is to prepare the root vegetable (or root vegetables), put it in the microwave and wait just a little time. Immediately set the power relay of your microwave oven to 700 W. If you want to speed up the cooking process even more, increase the power of the device and reduce the time accordingly. Or, conversely, if you can afford to lengthen this process, reduce the microwave power by 100-200 W and increase the time slightly. In any case, no matter what method of cooking beets in the microwave you like, first wash the root crop thoroughly and be sure to cut off the stalk. In addition, choose the right dishes for use in the microwave oven.This could be some kind of heat-resistant glass or ceramic bowl, saucer, or plate. A plastic container intended for cooking and heating in the microwave, or a cellophane sleeve for baking, will also work. But under no circumstances use foil or any metal utensils for these purposes.

How to cook beets in the microwave:

1. Roasting beets.

In this case, you will need 1 vegetable root, a saucer (suitable for use in a microwave oven), a small piece of baking sleeve and a very ordinary knitting needle.

In clean beets, make 8-10 through punctures with a knitting needle. Together with the saucer, pack the root vegetable into a piece of sleeve, and also pierce the cellophane several times.


Place the package in the microwave oven for 17-20 minutes. As soon as the microwave finishes its work, use a knife to check the readiness of the beets directly through the bag (if the knife goes into it easily, the vegetable is ready). Remove the package from the oven and carefully open the cellophane. As a result of this method of preparation, the beets, as a rule, turn out to be wrinkled and feel as springy to the touch as a rubber toy. In addition, the peel is very difficult to remove.

2. Boil beets in their peels.

In this case, you will need 1 root vegetable, a heat-resistant deep bowl (suitable for the size of the beets), a glass of water (maybe more or, conversely, less), a plastic lid for the microwave oven.

Pour water into a bowl and place the beets in it. Place the filled container in the microwave oven and close the lid. Turn on the device for 10 minutes.
After the specified time has passed, carefully turn the beets in the water onto another side and turn on the microwave again for 10 minutes.

As a result of this cooking method, the beets look as if they were cooked in a more conventional way - in a pan of water. The peel is very easy to peel off, and inside it is dense and juicy.

3. Boil beets into pieces without peel.

In this case, you will need 1 root vegetable, a deep heat-resistant bowl, some water (no more than half a glass), a knife and a plastic lid for the microwave oven.

You can prepare beets for salad using this method. Peel the root vegetable and cut into small cubes or strips. Pour water into a bowl.

Place the chopped beets in a bowl of water and microwave, remembering to cover, for 8-9 minutes.

This method of cooking beets in a microwave oven provides an excellent ready-to-use product. True, the dish that is placed in the microwave (as well as the bowl and lid) is covered with fine beet splashes, but this is only a minor nuisance.

Be sure to at least try cooking beets in a microwave oven. You may no longer want to use the usual method of preparing it.
