You can repair frayed jeans, and you can even do it yourself. To do this, we sew small pieces of non-woven fabric from the inside to the denim fabric. This particular material is convenient because it can be glued before sewing. This will securely fix the patch, preventing it from sticking out. There will be no wrinkles during stitching.
You should choose threads for work that are as similar to denim as possible. For this, it’s even better to go to the store with your trousers. It is then that the darning will not be completely noticeable to a prying eye.
Materials for work:
- interlining;
- threads to match the fabric;
- sewing machine;
- iron;
- scissors.
Instructions for use
Cut out two pieces from non-woven fabric. Their dimensions should be several centimeters larger than the worn areas on the jeans.
We apply pieces of non-woven fabric to the wrong side, on top of the abrasions. Place the adhesive side on the fabric. Iron it with a hot iron, the interlining will stick to the jeans.
We thread blue thread (to match the jeans) into the machine. The bobbin should have the same thread, but you can use a similar thread (black for dark fabric, white for light blue). We will sew on the front side.
We begin to lay the lines from the seam to the place where the frayed area ends. The direction of the seam should coincide with the direction of the pattern on the denim. Using the reverse stitch lever on the sewing machine, sew the stitch in the opposite direction, returning to the seam of the product.
We lay the lines as close to each other as possible. In this way we sew up the entire frayed area.
From the reverse side it will look like this.
Use scissors to cut off the non-sewn sections of the interlining close to the stitching.
Repaired jeans look neat, and the fabric at the darning site is thick and reliable.
