Making a wood splitter
The main parts of a screw log splitter are a powerful three-phase motor and a screw, also called a “carrot”. It is a steel cone with a sharp top and high threads along its entire length. The base of the screw has a groove for installation on the motor shaft.
You can purchase a ready-made carrot, order it from a turner, or turn it yourself if you have a machine.
The use of a 3 kW three-phase motor with a low speed of about 1400 per minute allows you to fix the screw directly to the motor shaft without using a belt drive.
An electric motor with a propeller is installed on a reliable table or large deck. The engine base is screwed to the base with powerful fasteners, since it will be subject to a breaking load.
How to use
After starting the motor, a chopping block is placed vertically at the top of the rotating cone. The screw screws into it like a self-tapping screw and splits the log into 2 logs. Claude must be served in such a way that its lower end rests flat on the table. This will eliminate the possibility of the log twisting and injuring your hands.
You need to be especially careful when chopping thin wood. They have a small end area, which reduces the reliability of the support on the table, so they tend to rotate on the screw like a propeller until they split. To avoid this, it is important to serve them on the cleaver fully resting on the table top.
If the top of the cone is not sharp enough, then pressing the deck against it requires good pressure. It is much easier to work if the cleaver begins to screw into the deck below the middle of its length. If the screw on the motor shaft is too high, then you can install a board step on the table so that the log is fed a little higher.
If these rules are followed, the cleaver can be used completely safely. The practical benefits of such a device are colossal, and in addition, during the period of inactivity of the wood splitter, its engine can be used on a circular and other devices.
