However, many flower growers who do not trust manufacturers of synthetic fertilizers continue to prepare nutritional compositions for home flowers on their own, using plant materials, food waste and available products.There are many recipes for feeding indoor flowers. The most popular of them include infusions made from banana peels and egg shells.
Banana peelings contain potassium and phosphorus salts that are easily accessible to the root system of plants, as well as valuable microelements and nitrogen substances that stimulate flowering processes. And water extracts from bird shells are saturated with hydrogen sulfide and calcium, which are responsible for the immunity of seedlings and their ability to withstand various adverse factors.
Recipe for universal fertilizer for flower crops
Dry the peels of three large bananas in air or in the oven, grind the raw materials into powder using a coffee grinder, and pour into a liter jar. Also grind dry egg shells from two chicken or five quail eggs in a coffee grinder and add to the container. Fill the raw material with water, cover with gauze and place in a dark place for a day. Use the strained liquid for routine watering of house plants.
Adding an infusion of banana shell powder and banana peelings improves soil structure, enriches the soil with nutrients, and increases plant health. Such root feeding is carried out from March to October once a month. And since it is recommended to fertilize plants every 2 weeks during active flowering, additionally other nutritional compositions are added to them, for example, ash infusion (a tablespoon of ash per liter of water, leave for 1-3 days).
The following plants are most responsive to the application of infusions of banana shells and peels: pelargonium, violet, miniature rose, spathiphyllum, indoor jasmine, Sudanese rose, amaryllis, petunia, gardenia, clivia, Decembrist, balsam, chlorophytum.
