Simple DIY biogas plant

Free cooking gas can be obtained from human and animal waste. To do this, you can assemble a simple biogas plant.

The principle of obtaining gas from waste is very simple: waste is placed in a sealed tank, where it ferments for a certain time, releasing a mixture of methane with other gases, which burns well and is suitable for household use.

Will need

  • Sealed plastic tank with a lid for 50-100 liters.
  • 2 ball valves for gas.
  • Tee.
  • Silicone tube for gas pipeline.
  • Crimping clamps.
  • Camera from a truck (or tractor).
  • Corner with a plastic pipe.

Manufacturing of biogas plant

A barrel with a tight-fitting lid. Be sure to check that it is completely sealed.

We make a hole in the lid. We insert the fitting into it and seal the fit with two-component glue.

On the side, using the same technology, we glue a corner fitting with a pipe that goes almost to the very bottom of the tank.

This pipe is needed to remove waste from the bottom when filling new ones. Glue the hose to the outlet.

You will need to place a plastic bucket under it.

We put a hose on the fitting in the cover and secure it with a crimp clamp.

We attach a ball valve to the other side of the tube to shut off the main supply.

A tube is connected from the tap and goes to the tee. From the tee, one end is connected to the second tap, consumers will connect to it.

And the other outlet from the tee goes to a rubber chamber, which serves as a gas accumulator.

Initially, the chamber must be completely deflated, releasing all excess air.

Refueling the installation

For refueling you need almost any vegetable waste, in my case a couple of kilograms of peelings from vegetables, fruits, and also rotten fruits.

We throw everything into the tank.

Next, to obtain methane fermentation with the release of methane, you need to add organic waste. In this case, 30-day old cattle manure was used. The total volume of manure is about 10 liters.

Add water to 2/3 tank volume.

This is what a fueled biogas plant looks like. Close the lid tightly.

After 7 days, the chamber was filled with natural gas.

Gas usage

Let's try to light it.

All the gas will evaporate from the side hose.... or what?

First, everything will pour into the bucket, and then the gas. But the chamber will remain deflated; there is not enough pressure there to inflate the chamber.

Please note that the calorific value of biogas is low, it contains almost half of carbon dioxide.

Manure needs to be fresh as long as it contains live bacteria from the intestines.
