Tired of stumps on your property? Or near the house? I propose to get rid of them with the help of ingenuity and a two hundred liter barrel. This method is accessible to everyone and does not require special equipment for uprooting stumps.
The advantage of this method is that it is suitable for any wood, even freshly cut wood. There is no need to wait a year until everything rots on its own from any fertilizers; we will need one day to “do everything about everything.”
Removing a stump from a site with your own hands
Take a metal barrel. Cut two holes using metal scissors or an angle grinder.
A rectangle at the bottom, free-form at the top. The result is a kind of oven, where firewood will be placed in the lower part, and smoke will come out from above.
Dig the stump from all sides. Everything is done with a shovel in about 15 minutes.
We put the barrel on the stump and add firewood.
It is better to start removing the stump in the morning, since the process needs control, and leaving it overnight is dangerous. Everything was prepared for the evening.
We light our stove in the morning.
Everything inside burns and smolders for almost 14 hours.
All that was left for the night were the coals that were being “finished.” The next morning everything burned to the ground, leaving only ash.
As you already understood, not a trace remained of the stump.
This is a good and proven method.
Perhaps a question has crept into your mind: why do you need a barrel at all? Was it really impossible to just make a fire from above? - Perhaps so, but the barrel retains heat significantly, less firewood is required. Smoldering occurs 3 times more. And the fire itself does not burn haphazardly, but in a protective casing, which increases fire safety.
What you need to pay attention to:
- Do not leave the fire unattended.
- Be sure to keep a couple of buckets of water nearby in case the fire gets out of control.
It is not recommended to use this method near buildings or near flammable materials.
