Such an element furniture in Techno style will decorate not only a summer gazebo, living room, kitchen, but also the interior of a bar. It can be made without much expense, time and effort, if you have the skills to handle metal tools.

How to make a stool from an old shock absorber

Will need

Before we start, let's prepare:

shock absorbers and springs from cars;
profile pipe;
steel strips;
primer;
wood glue;
MDF board;
spray paint;
nuts, washers, screws;
plastic inserts;
self-adhesive felt pads.

To work you will need: grinder, measuring instruments, welding, drill, jigsaw, router, etc.

The process of making a stool

We disassemble and separate the shock absorbers from the springs.

Use a grinder to cut off the mounting points from the shock absorbers.

We cut the rectangular pipe into 6 parts: 2 equal sections twice as long (taking into account the profile) 4 sections also of the same length.

We lay the long section with the narrow side on a flat surface and weld two short sections exactly in the center at right angles on both sides and get a symmetrical cross.

We cut 8 square fragments from a steel strip 6 cm wide.Using a grinder, we give them a round shape, turning them into “nickels”, which we weld to the ends of the beams of the “crosses”.

We clean the shock absorbers with a grinder and install them vertically with the base in the centers of the “crosses” and weld them securely. We cover everything with black primer.

We cut 4 squares of equal size from the MDF board and glue them in pairs using wood glue. We compress them while the glue sets with clamps.

We divide a wide steel strip into two halves, mark them and drill 1 hole in the center and 4 in the corners. We countersink the corner holes for screw heads, and drill them in the center with a Forstner drill.

Having removed the clamps, on each two-layer block, having found the center, we draw inscribed circles with a compass and cut them out with a jigsaw. We grind the discs on a grinder, and use a milling cutter to remove chamfers around the circumference.

We place steel plates on the disks in the center and transfer their outline to MDF circles. Using a Forstner drill and a drill, we make a recess in the center and mill the marked contour to the depth of the plate with a router.

We cover the circles and springs with black primer, and after the primer has dried, we also paint the springs with orange paint.

We put spacers on the top of the springs, and rest the bottom against the supports on the shock absorbers. We insert covers into the spacers, plates and rings on top and tighten with nuts, compressing the springs. Screw on the nut and tighten securely. We cut off part of the rods above the nuts.

We close the ends of the beams of the crosses with plastic inserts, tapping them with a rubber mallet. We place steel plates in the recesses of the seats and fasten them to the MDF with screws.
