Quite often, interior doors do not have a lock or it is broken, which eliminates the possibility of locking them for privacy. To prevent others from entering a room with a door without a lock, you can lock it from the inside in four different ways.
Method 1: Chair with gas lift
If a push handle is used on the door, and there is a chair with a gas lift in the room, then you can prop it up with its back.
The chair is placed close to the door and its height is adjusted so that the back rests against the handle. This way, if someone tries to enter from the outside, the backrest will prevent the handle from turning down and unlocking the tongue.
Method 2: Paper wedge
You can block the door by placing a wedge underneath it. This could be a mounting wedge for installing and adjusting doors or windows, or a homemade wooden wedge will also work. It is placed below opposite the handle.
If there is neither a plastic nor a wooden wedge, then you can roll a piece of cardboard into a tube and double its edges. The result will be a wedge that is stiff enough for blocking.It is important to roll the cardboard with the glossy side inward so that it does not slide on the floor when pressed. Using this method will allow you to close an interior door with absolutely any handle, even if it does not have a tongue.
Method 3: Table fork
For a table fork, you need to bend the edges of the tines at right angles.
After this, the handle breaks off from it.
The fork teeth are inserted under the lock tongue into the strike plate on the door frame.
The door is then closed and the broken handle is inserted between the teeth. The result is a bolt that prevents opening. To prevent it from leaving dents on the door leaf and trim, you need to place cardboard pads, preferably folded in half. Such an improvised deadbolt is suitable for doors with a push and turn handle, such as a knob.
Method 4: Waist belt or rope
If there is a hanger or hook on the inside of the door leaf, and a push handle is installed in it, then you can tighten the waist belt on them.
When trying to press the handle down, he clings to the hook and does not allow it to move. If the belt cannot be adjusted due to the absence of a punched hole in the right place for fastening the buckle, then it can be wound around the handle several times, thereby making it shorter. This method will help out in a situation where the lock in the bathroom or toilet is broken.
