How to remove a tightly seated crankshaft bearing

The presence of a factory puller does not always allow you to remove bearings pressed close to the crankshaft cheeks. His lips simply cannot grasp the clip. In this case, in front of the puller you need to use an additional device that you can make yourself.

Materials:

• sheet steel or strip 5 mm thick;
  
• 1/2 inch pipe;
  
• bolts with nuts M12 – 2 pcs.

Fixture manufacturing process

It is necessary to cut 4 rectangular blanks 100x40 mm from a strip or sheet steel 5 mm thick. If there is a plate with a cross section of 10 mm, then 2 blanks will be required.
The plates are welded together in pairs to double their thickness. Then 2 pieces of pipe are welded to them along the edges. In the center of the blanks, shelves are cut out between the tubes, and a one-sided sharpening is made for a wedge.


The resulting parts are tightened together with bolts passed through tubes. To remove the bearing, you need to spread the tool and place its halves in the gap between the race and the crankshaft cheeks. When tightening the bolts, it will undermine the bearing, creating a gap for further capture by a conventional puller.


If you have to remove small bearings, you can cut out several bushings for the bolts from the tube, which will allow you not to screw the nuts along the entire thread when gripping.
