The simplest technique for sharpening meat grinder knives to factory sharpness

A manual or electric meat grinder begins to grind worse over time, as its blade becomes dull. You can restore its sharpness in literally 5 minutes, and even a girl, grandmother or child can do this.

What you will need:

  • sheet of sandpaper P320;
  • glass or mirror.

Knife sharpening process

For sharpening, P320 sandpaper is used. This is the optimal grain size if you do not plan to bring the knife to the state of a blade, which is useless for a meat grinder. The sandpaper must be placed on a perfectly flat base. Thick glass or a mirror is best for this.
The knife is placed on the paper with its flat side and pressed down with a finger in the middle.

Pressing it evenly in the center, you need to sharpen it in a circular motion. The direction of rotation does not matter. Sharpening continues until the cutting parts of all blades become shiny and smooth.

Similarly, you need to define a plane on the lattice. It will take a little longer. You need to sand it down to smooth, clean metal.

You can then check the sharpness by placing a thin strip of paper in the grate and trying to cut it by running a knife through it. If it is cut off, then everything worked out. When assembling the meat grinder, you need to place the grill with the shiny, sharpened side facing inward towards the knife.

    What is "blade condition"? and what does it mean to “not bring the knife to the edge?”

    The knife is sharpened on the other side using a regular sharpener; the grate is sharpened with a special stone directly in a meat grinder; any hardware store has one.
