As a scientific aid for visualizing the laws of aerodynamics and gaining practical skills in aircraft construction, you can assemble a model of a single-axis twin-rotor helicopter. All the materials needed for this can be easily obtained. This is an interesting visual experiment that can be repeated at home.
Basic materials:
- ballpoint pen with a metal core;
- bicycle spoke;
- driven plastic gears – 2 pcs.;
- driving plastic gears – 2 pcs.;
- electric motors from toys – 2 pcs.;
- wooden ice cream sticks;
- propellers – 2 pcs.;
- Super glue.
Helicopter manufacturing process
It is necessary to cut off a small piece of the ballpoint pen body and drill out its tip to match the diameter of the ink refill.
5-7 cm is cut from the metal rod itself.
You will also need a piece of bicycle spoke 2 cm longer than the steel tube.
A driven plastic gear is glued onto the edge of the spokes and rod. The knitting needle is then inserted into the tube, and together they are threaded into the sawn-off body of the handle.
Drive gears are put on the motor shafts. Insulating tape is wound around the handle tube to thicken it, and the motors are glued to it. You need to connect them to the driven gears. To strengthen the fastening, pieces of toothpicks are glued to the sides.
Power wires are soldered to the motor contacts. Then a reinforcing frame is made from ice cream sticks onto the resulting structure. A hole is made in the crossbar between its posts to insert the edge of the shaft from the spoke. To prevent the wood from rubbing, you can insert a sleeve made from a tube into it.
Legs made of sticks and a reinforcing belt are also glued to the frame. Then, on the reverse side, propellers are glued onto the spoke and rod tube.
The wires from the motors are connected in parallel, and a long thin copper wire is soldered to them to supply power from the source. Now if you apply 12V 1.5A to the helicopter, it will take off.
