Often, engine problems in the form of difficult starting, floating speed and poor traction are caused by incorrect operation of the throttle valve. This can be solved by cleaning it. This should be done together with replacing the air filter, or even more often if you have to drive a lot on dusty roads.
What you will need:
- cleaner for throttle bodies or carburetors;
- dry rags;
- cotton buds;
- new gasket for throttle body.
Throttle body cleaning process
To service the throttle valve, you need to remove it. For a conventional engine, the gas pedal cable is simply reset before doing this; for a more complex engine, you need to disconnect the wires, having first removed the terminal from the carburetor.
Maintenance involves applying a cleaner inside the damper. Can be used both specialized and for carburetors. After the first application, its internal surfaces are wiped with a rag and ear sticks. Then a final rinse is done. The damper must be reinstalled using a new gasket.
After such maintenance, the valve will no longer catch plaque and will move normally.In addition, the absence of layering will allow air to pass unhindered if it is only slightly open. Often a deposit of a couple of millimeters simply closes a small gap, and the engine does not have enough air.
If the damper has not been cleaned for a long time, the coating acts as an abrasive. He might just erase it. Then even when it is closed, air passes in large quantities. This causes the idle speed to increase. In this case, you need to change the damper, and not the idle air regulator, as you might think with such a problem.
