At home or in the country, you do not always need high flow and pressure of water created using a powerful electric pump. It can be replaced with a manual pump and at the same time save a lot of water and electricity.
Will need
- Cast iron or steel flywheel (steering wheel);
- V-belt;
- single-groove pulley;
- rolling bearings;
- short thick and long hairpins;
- bolts, nuts, flat and engraving washers;
- round and profile pipes;
- steel plate.
Pump manufacturing process
At the point where one of the spokes meets the flywheel rim, we mark and drill a through hole.
Using a hand tap and a wrench, cut the thread in the hole. We put a short tube on a long bolt with a round head and secure it with two nuts. We screw the free end of the bolt with the tube into the threaded hole on the steering wheel and also secure it on the reverse side with two nuts.
We ask a turner we know to turn an axle for the flywheel from a short stud according to the drawing.
We attach a bearing to the end of the round pipe and weld it using a welding machine.
We clean the seam with a grinder.
On the pipe slightly above the bearing we mark and drill a hole, to which we weld the beveled end of another tube at an angle.
We screw a nut and washer onto a long stud and insert it into the pipe until it stops at the bearing. We put an engraver on the outer end of the stud and after tightening the nut, install a single-groove pulley, which is also secured with a nut with an engraver.
We install a bearing into a pipe sleeve with an internal seat. To it (the bearing housing) from the outside, in a diametrical position along the generatrix, we weld two plates with a pair of holes in each.
We place the plates on a pipe with a long pin, make holes in it, cut the threads with a tap and fasten the plates with bolts to the pipe. Moreover, between the bearing housing and the end of the pipe we leave an annular gap of several centimeters.
In two large flat washers, after marking with a grinder, we make 4 slots at 90 degrees, not reaching the holes in the center.
We fasten each of the slotted washers onto the bolt with two nuts, which we clamp vertically in a vice, and with adjustable pliers we bend the corners of the sectors in opposite directions to obtain an impeller.
We fix the impellers with nuts on a stud at a certain distance from each other closer to the end with the bearing housing.
We reassemble the stud in the pipe, as we did before.
We weld a console made of a profile pipe to the pipe at a level and perpendicular to the inclined pipe.
We weld a cross member to the end of the console from below, and to it at the ends - legs equal to the reach of the pipe with the bearing housing.
We weld an axle vertically to the console from above, closer to the cross member, onto which we put the flywheel, and we cover it with the pulley with a V-belt.
We lower the pipe with the bearing housing into a tank of water and begin to rotate the flywheel.
Rotation goes along the belt to the pulley (taking into account the gear ratio) and along the pin-axis to the impellers. They capture water, lift it up and it begins to pour out through the side tube.
