Clamps are always useful for tightening hoses, but you don’t always have the right one at hand. In such a situation, you can make them yourself using wire and simple tools without using a clamp.

What you need to make clamps

To make tension clamps you will need:
  • flexible wire of suitable diameter;
  • pliers;
  • nail for working with wire;
  • a small piece of reinforcement;
  • clamp.

The wire can be made of aluminum alloy or steel, it doesn’t matter, the main thing is that it is strong and flexible at the same time.

How to make a clamp using pliers

Take a piece of wire and fold it in half so that a loop is formed at the bend.

By spreading the ends of the wire to the side, the future clamp is put on the hose, the loop should be on top, and the ends of the wire should be at the edges.

All that remains is to twist the free ends of the wire with pliers.

Next, tighten the loop, thereby tightening the twist and biting off the excess - the clamp is ready!

Double clamp

The prepared piece of wire needs to be folded in half, and then screwed two turns onto the hose, pulling it as tight as possible.

After this, all that remains is to connect and tighten the ends of the wire with pliers, biting off excess pieces with the same pliers.

Tension wire clamp

To make this type of clamp you need a long wire. One end is rigidly attached to a fixed base, a piece of reinforcement is tied to the other end - it must be used to tighten the clamp.

The wire is wrapped around the hose in two turns. Using an improvised handle, the hose is twisted in different directions, thereby tightening the clamp.

Using a hose, twisting it, we connect the ends of the wire and tighten them without the help of pliers.

The clamp is ready, all that remains is to bite off the excess wire with pliers.

How to tighten a clamp using a nail

The wire is folded in half, the fold should form a loop where you can insert a nail.

Then the wire is wound onto the hose one turn, and a nail is inserted into the loop.

By turning the nail, the ends of the wire are twisted and clamped.

The clamp is ready, all that remains is to bite off the long ends with pliers.
