In carpentry, even having a large arsenal of power tools and machines does not allow you to do everything perfectly. In addition to equipment, various tricks are required. Let's look at 5 of them.
1. How to find the center of the disk quickly and accurately
If you have a disk that needs to be drilled in the middle, you can find its center using a square and a ruler. To do this, a square is applied to the side of it. The ruler is aligned along the bevel of the latter.
You need to draw a line on the disk under the ruler. Then the bunch of tools is moved slightly to the side, and a similar line is drawn. At the intersection of the marks will be the center of the disk.
2. How to cut with a jigsaw without chipping
The jigsaw file makes chips. To avoid them, simply apply masking tape along the cut line. It will support the fibers of the workpiece, due to which there will be no chips when cutting.
3. How to evenly stick the sanding paper onto the soleplate of the sander
To ensure that the holes on the sanding paper and the sanding pad match, insert 2 dowels into the perforation of the latter.
You can stick sandpaper on them perfectly evenly. Then the dowels are removed.
4. How to disguise the head of a screw in wood
If you are screwing a piece of wood with a self-tapping screw, but do not want the head to be visible, then lift up a thin layer of wood with a chisel.
A hole is drilled for the self-tapping screw and countersunk. Then we drive the self-tapping screw so that it does not protrude, and apply wood glue under the sliver.
It is pressed with a clamp until completely dry.
Then all that remains is to sand the area a little with fine sandpaper. The self-tapping screw, and the fact that the layer of wood was removed will not be visible at all.
5. How to repair cracks in solid wood
Cracks in wood can be filled with soda and superglue, resulting in a semblance of white, durable plastic. To do this, soda is poured in thin layers and glue is poured on top. This composition is counted instantly.
There is no need to completely fill the crack with soda at once; it is important to layer it so that the plastic is formed throughout its entire depth. This is the fastest filling method, unlike epoxy resin, as it does not require polymerization time.
