To fix large boards in a vertical position, you can make 2 universal quick clamps of an automatic design. They will allow you to securely fasten lumber of any length for edge processing. In addition to convenience, this design is also compact.

Materials:

  • Plywood 10-20 mm;
  • steel strip 20 mm;
  • bolts and nuts M6-M8 – 8 pcs.;
  • extension springs – 2 pcs.

Clamp making process

To make one clamp, you will need to prepare 4 pieces of plywood 20x40 cm and 2 - 5x50 cm. Large ones need to be glued in half, resulting in 2 thick parts.

While the glue is setting, the prepared slats must be processed with an edge cutter, and 4 holes must be drilled in them for attaching each rack to be glued.

Next you need to deal with the glued blanks. One of their corners is cut at 45 degrees.

After this, you need to lighten them by cutting through grooves, as in the example. The edges must be processed with a router.

Then you need to connect the lightweight workpieces together using previously drilled slats. For reliability, it is better to use glue and screws.

As a result, we get a clamp frame. For it to work, you will also need to make pressing jaws and a lever system. Sponges are cut out of plywood to fit the width of the racks, as in the example.

The jaws must be secured with levers made from cut steel strips.

To do this, you will need to drill the jaws themselves and the frame.

The drilling location and the length of the levers are chosen so that the jaws fit snugly against each other in the lower position. If you lift them up, they diverge.

Now the jaws are fixed in the upper position by springs. A strap is screwed onto them from the top end.

Thus, it is worth placing a board on it, and it will bring the lips together with its weight.

The effect of automatic clamping is obtained. All that remains is to make the second clamp to the pair.
