Over the years, in the cooling system in general and in the radiator of the car heater in particular, sediments falling out of the coolant accumulate, products of corrosion of parts and oxidation of antifreeze or antifreeze appear, which, clogging the radiator tubes, reduce operating efficiency. But there is a way to wash it without removing it from the car. Any motorist can do this job.

Will need

  • Container for draining antifreeze or antifreeze;
  • well submersible pump;
  • hose sections;
  • container for hot water;
  • citric acid, etc.

The process of flushing the heater radiator without removing it from the car

We drain the antifreeze or antifreeze from the main radiator, and then from the block into a clean container to minimize losses, and then, after cleaning the unit in question, refill the antifreeze or antifreeze in place.

We find the inlet and outlet pipes for antifreeze or antifreeze and disconnect them. In their place we connect non-standard hose connectors for supplying and discharging antifreeze or antifreeze of the required length.

We connect a powerful well submersible pump with a capacity of about 1000 l/hour to the supply hose, but no more, for fear of rupture of the radiator tubes from the excessive pressure created by the pump.

We place the hydraulic unit in a container of suitable volume, as well as the return connector. Pour hot water heated to 75-100 degrees Celsius into a container with a submersible pump and return line, and add citric acid powder at the rate of 150-250 grams per bucket of hot water.

We wait until the powder is completely dissolved. To speed up this process, stir the liquid. We turn on the pump and begin the process of flushing the radiator using two factors: the pressure created by the pump breaks off deposits, and acid dissolves scale.

The duration of the first flushing stage depends on the degree of contamination of the unit and should last at least 5 minutes. If the washing liquid becomes very dirty, then repeat the process several times until clean water comes out.

At the end, we run clean water through the system two or three times and blow it with compressed air. Then we install the standard hoses in place and check the interior heating system, and make sure that it begins to function as expected.

When connections were removed and put on, air could get into the assembly. This is not scary, since the air formations will disappear on their own after a while, but the stove will malfunction. We remove gas from the unit immediately after washing it. For this purpose, we will use an overpass or a hillock. After all, we need to lift up the front of the car and give it a good gas a couple of times. At the same time, liquid will bubble in the stove, but this will stop after the air pockets are released.

    I have changed several cars, and if you keep an eye on it, there are almost no leaks and topping up of antifreeze. Modern antifreezes of normal quality do not react with engine parts, where does the sludge come from?
    After such flushes, how much new antifreeze should be used to restore its low-temperature properties?
