An uninsulated chimney pipe creates many problems in winter. Without insulation, it cools quickly, so the draft in it is weaker. In addition, without it, condensation will form on it. This causes it to become clogged with soot faster. In addition, condensation can literally flow down the pipe directly into the furnace. All this can be avoided by spending a couple of hours on insulating the chimney.

Materials:

  • Foil-coated mineral wool;
  • reinforced tape;
  • stretch film.

Pipe insulation process

The essence of insulation is very simple - you need to wrap the pipe with mineral wool foil on the outside and secure it with reinforced tape. To avoid joints, it is better to cut off cotton wool from the roll equal in length to the height of the pipe.

The prepared section needs to be wound onto the pipe starting from the top, and secure the top with a couple of turns of tape. In this case, the edges of the cotton wool should be tucked inward so that only the reflector is visible from the outside. This will protect the insulation from getting wet. Both the top and the side longitudinal edges of the cotton wool are tucked inward.

To keep everything secure, it is better to wrap the tape in increments of 30 cm. Finally, the insulation is covered with stretch film on top.It should be wound from the bottom up, which will completely eliminate the access of moisture to the mineral wool.
